To Mount Airy Museum of Regional History and donors of items in the new exhibit on J.J. Jones High School, which opened last weekend during the school’s alumni reunion.

The exhibit gives young and old a look into the county’s only black high school during times of segregation that made sure black students had a chance to succeed in their futures, and it honors John J. Jones, who founded the school and was principal for 16 years, and his family.

To area organizers of today’s annual Relay for Life, which is a time to honor cancer patients who are fighting the disease, remember those who have fallen victim, and raise money to continue researching ways to defeat cancer.

Hundreds of people who walk the track at Mount Airy High School today for the Relay cause, and at 6 p.m., survivors will be honored with their own lap.

Cancer is a word that has become too much of an everyday occurrence, and the volunteers, in many cases people who have been touched in some way by the disease, are dedicated to making sure the battle continues in the fight against cancer.
