A man and woman were arrested July 26 on charges of animal cruelty.

Nickolas Allen Lovelace, 18, and Karen Atkinson Lovelace, 44, of Yadkinville were both charged with one count of felony killing of an animal by starvation.

A Yadkin County Sheriff’s Officer responded on Friday to a welfare check of a dog on Vestal Street in Yadkinville, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

When the officer arrived, he found the animal in a back yard kennel severely malnourished. The Yadkin County Animal Control took possession of the animal and approximately one hour later had to euthanize the dog.

The owners of the dog were aware of the dog’s condition and failed to act, according to the press release.

Both were released from jail on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
