A local girl was awarded one of 20 Ronald McDonald House scholarships last week.

Maria Carachure of Yadkinville was one of 20 Triad-area students to receive a $1,000 Ronald McDonald House Charities scholarship.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities recipients were chosen based on their leadership skills, academic success, community involvement, financial need and a personal essay describing how they intend to make a difference in society.

“Each year, I am impressed by the applicants who have demonstrated a commitment to furthering their education,” said Triad-area McDonald’s Owner/Operator Scott Lang. “It’s an honor to reward these 20 students with the Ronald McDonald House Charities scholarships. Through programs like this and other local education-based initiatives, McDonald’s owner/operators in the Triad are committed to supporting our students’ pursuits of their higher education goals.”
