Three former lead singers of major bands will be performing over the three day festival in Mt. Airy’s Veterans Memorial Park during the annual Run to the Ridge.

On July 26 Fran Cosmo, former lead singer of Boston, will perform. Brian Howe, former lead singer of Bad Company, will perform July 27. Steve Augeri, former lead singer of Journey, will end the event on July 28.

The festival is hosted by Matthew 25:35, a non-profit that works to help feed local families in need, in a partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank.

One-day entry fees are $15 and a three-day pass is $40, with the majority of the money going toward Second Harvest. Children under 12 years old are admitted free.

An earmark is put on the money to ensure it comes back into Surry County to help local families.

During the three days local bands will play for the crowd, followed by the former frontmen in the evenings.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, tentatively, Tim Smith from the popular television show “Moonshiners” will be appearing.

Mt. Empire will bring its Victory Lap inflatable slide for the children to play on. About 50 to 60 vendors will be present.

A car and motorcycle show will be held during the event.

A poker run will take place, with motorcycles, cars, bicycles and walkers welcome .

There are 15 stops spread out from Tuggle Gap, Va. along the Blue Ridge Parkway to Laurel Springs, N.C. There are several stops around Mount Airy and local wineries.

Each of the 15 stops offers a stamp, with five stamps being needed to draw a hand of poker. The stops can be made in any order to give participants the chance to customize the ride to how they complete the course and how many days they take to complete it.

A hog cook off will benefit the Surry County Schools social workers, with all proceeds going to them to be able to help families as they see need.

The cook-off will be Friday night and the judging on Saturday. The pork will be sold by the pound or by the sandwich on Saturday.

The price to enter the hog cook off is $125 with registration going on now. Only 10 contestants will be entered into the contest, with prize money and trophies up for grabs.
