BOONVILLE - The Lady Falcons knocked off rival Starmount Thursday night to all but wrap up the 2A Mountain Valley Conference title.

Forbush rode the strong arm of ace Shey Steelman to a 6-1 victory over the Rams for its 10th league win of the season.

With the win, the Falcons improved to 10-3 on the season in conference action and pushed their lead over runner-up Wilkes Central (6-7) to four games in the win column.

Forbush still trails front-runner West Wilkes in the overall standings. The Blackhawks sit in the top spot with a perfect 13-0 mark.

The two clubs look poised to battle again in the conference tournament for the second straight season. West topped the Falcons 7-4 last season in the tournament title game in Ronda.

Forbush has three games remaining on its schedule, beginning Tuesday against Elkin. The Falcons meet Wilkes Central on the last day of the regular season next Monday.
