Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation is helping students celebrate Earth Day by raising awareness of care for the environment through book donations to local schools and libraries.

In preparation for Earth Day on April 22, Blue Ridge Electric personnel are making deliveries of: “The Green Mother Goose” by Jan Peck and David Davis to elementary schools and public libraries across the cooperative’s service area.

The book is a lyrical and playful invitation for young children to “think green” with “recycled” classic nursery rhymes updated to reflect the theme of care for the environment. With 30 different nursery rhymes that young readers will remember, the book is written in a style to be enjoyed by first, second and third graders.

The environment has always been important to Blue Ridge Electric. From helping students learn about their environment to educating our members on energy conservation to lobbying for practical renewable energy standards, Blue Ridge Electric has always strived to be a good steward of the environment. Participating in Earth Day celebrations with the schools helps demonstrate this commitment.

Blue Ridge Electric serves some 74,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany counties as well as parts of Wilkes, Alexander and Avery counties.
