Hundreds of people filled the gymnasium at Surry Community College with resumes in hand to network and meet potential employers at the college’s largest job fair in history.

Job seekers were able to fill out applications on-site and learn more about potential careers through face-to-face time at the event held Tuesday, April 9.

Forty-four organizations were represented across a wide spectrum of industries: law enforcement, emergency services, governmental agencies, manufacturing, health care, viticulture/enology, financial services, retail outlets, childcare and the military. The majority of these organizations were recruiting for current job openings and future positions.

In order to prepare job seekers for the job fair, the college held a Job Preparedness Workshop earlier in the month where applicants received tips on interviews, job applications, resume creation and other related topics.

“We were very pleased with the amount of job-seekers and employers represented at today’s job fair. We recorded a total of 275 job seekers who registered with us as they arrived,” said Anne Marie Hardy, Surry Community College’s Director of Career Services. “There were many types of people with varied backgrounds and experience who attended today’s event; however, they all had the same goal in mind. We are hopeful that many were able to successfully network and gain potential job leads.”
