ELKIN - In a battle of the top two teams in the league, the Buckin’ Elks all but secured the Mountain Valley Conference tennis crown Friday afternoon.

Elkin made quick work of second place East Wilkes, cruising to a 9-0 sweep of the Cardinals to stay perfect in league play with their 12th-straight win.

All six Elks breezed to straight-set victories in singles play, including defending 1A state champ Tyler Macy, who topped Graylin Cleary 6-0, 6-1.

David Bullins, Ashton Gant, Chad Vestal, Jacob Lyon and Coley McCulloch rounded out the singles sweep for Elkin.

In doubles play, the Elks completed the afternoon with three dominating performances.

The pairs of Macy/Bullins, Gant/McCulloch and Lyon/Vestal won comfortably as Elkin took another step towards a second-straight conference title.

The Elks return to the court Tuesday against Ashe County up the mountain in West Jefferson.
