Ashe faced conference leading East Wilkes on Tuesday and came up short against the Cardinals, losing 9-0.


Cardinal top seed Greylin Cleary took down Sam Bowers in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. In the second seeded match, Dillon Shew picked up the victory over Lucas Zeller, beating him 6-2, 6-1.


Alvin Sales defeated third seeded Een Shepherd by a 6-2, 6-2 score. The fourth and fifth seeded matches were both 6-0, 6-0 wins for East Wilkes. Levi Barker defeated Jacob O’Neal and Jeffrey Haynes beat senior Jordan Spell.


Cardinal sixth seed Luke Patterson won his match via forfeit.


In doubles action, Cleary and Sales were 8-4 winners over Bowers and Zeller. The duo of Shew and Barker was 8-9 winners over Shepherd and O’Neal. Haynes and Patterson won the third and final doubles match via forfeit.


Ashe is now 5-5 overall and 4-5 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
