EAST BEND - Ahead of an All-Yadkin County showdown with rival Starmount, Forbush split a pair of non-conference tilts last week.
Set to battle the Rams Tuesday night, the Falcons blanked West Iredell 5-0 last Wednesday before dropping a tough 11-3 decision to Davie County Friday night.
Against the Warriors, Forbush rode the strong arm of Brad Dzeskewicz to the shutout victory.
Dzeskewicz dazzled for six innings, allowing just two hits to pick up his first ‘W’ of the season. Mason Doub shut the door in the seventh to preserve the win.
Offensively, the Falcons only managed four hits, but made them count.
Barrett Hennings powered Forbush at the dish, cranking a three-run shot to give Dzeskewicz all the run-support he needed. Nelson Valerio added an RBI hit to round out the scoring.
The Falcons could not carry the momentum over into Friday’s matchup with 7-1 Davie.
Doub struggled early, allowing seven runs (six earned) in the first two frames, as Forbush fell behind quickly.
The Falcons could not fight their way out of the early hole, striking for a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. After a Carson Fulp run-scoring single, Ben Temple roped a two-RBI double in the sixth.
Forbush turns its attention to rival Starmount, who is coming off two heart-breaking loses to Elkin and Wilkes Central in its last two games.
