EAST BEND - The future of girls hoops at Forbush appears bright.
After the Lady Falcons posted their second-straight undefeated season at the middle school level, a young Forbush squad followed that up with the Mountain Valley Conference Junior Varsity Championship this past season.
The Falcons posted a 13-4 overall record on the year, including a 12-2 mark in league play to edge Wilkes Central for the crown.
“This year’s season started at summer camp with hard work that continued on in to the regular season,” head coach Tim Parks said. “We had a great group of girls that gave 100 percent and had the heart and talent to be champions.”
The Falcons, with a young roster littered with nine freshmen and one sophomore, averaged 40 points per game on the year, while holding opponents to just 31 points per game.
Against Wilkes Central on the final night of the season in the de facto title game, Forbush used a strong fourth quarter to not only seal the victory, but the title in the process.
Holding a one-point edge heading to the final frame, the Falcons poured in 28 points to cruise to the comfortable 61-44 win.
