Yadkin County Schools has begun compliance with the new state legislation called House Bill 857, “an act to make successful completion of instruction in CPR a requirement for high school graduation by 2015.

This bill is to be implemented with the current sophomores and freshmen in Yadkin County high schools.

Principals from the middle schools and high schools met with Dr. Stewart Hobbs, the school superintendent, and the school nursing staff to develop a plan for implementation. The school system purchased six mannequins and an AED Trainer to begin the training process.

Plans are underway to train the current high school students and a program has been implemented to require ninth grade CPR training in current health and physical education classes beginning next year.

Yadkin County Schools thanks the CPR trained volunteers, EMT volunteers and the nursing staff for the donation of their time to help Yadkin County Schools begin the process of compliance.

A National CPR statistic report by the American Heart Association shows that 70 percent of Americans may feel helpless to act during cardiac emergency. Roughly 88 percent of cardiac arrest events occur in the home.
