PILOT MOUNTAIN - Bryan Winters and Noah Medwin powered the Forbush swim team to a Mountain Valley Conference title Wednesday night at Armfield Civic Center in Pilot Mountain.

Winters and Medwin each won two individual gold medals, while leading two Falcon relay teams to two medals, including a gold in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Winters swam to a gold in the 200 yard individual medley (2:16.87) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:48.09), winning by over a full minute. The senior was named the Mountain Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year.

Medwin matched his teammate with wins in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.79) and 50 yard freestyle (23.55). Austin Doub added a gold medal in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.73.

Alec Faircloth, Brett Fulk and Sam Trivette brought home bronze medals in their respective events to round out the individual medals for Forbush.

The Falcon relay team of Winters, Doub, Medwin and Tate Williams dominated the 400 yard freestyle, winning by nearly a minute with a time of 3:57.31. Faircloth, Luke Harding, Isaac Warden and Ben Wall finished third in the event.

Winters, Doub, Medwin and Kenton McCollum nearly completed the relay sweep, but fell by a hair to Elkin in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:51.94.

Forbush swam to the overall title, cruising to 202 team points, easily topping the field. Elkin finished second with 127 points with Wilkes Central coming in a distant third with 56 points.

Head coach Mark Beuter was named the conference’s boys coach of the year.

The Lady Falcons turned in a strong performance at the meet, swimming to a third-place finish.

Maris Bey and Renee VanHoy earned Forbush’s only individual medals, coming in second and third, respectively, in the 500 yard freestyle.

Forbush’s relay team of Bey, Rachel Wooten, Macy Johnson and Sidney Vanhoy found the podium twice. The Falcons edged Starmount in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 5:11.99 to place second, while earning a bronze in the 200 yard medley.

Forbush finished with 66 team points, coming behind Elkin (140) and North Wilkes (114) in the final standings.
