BOONVILLE - Starmount edged East Wilkes 36-35 last Wednesday to notch their fourth Mountain Valley Conference victory of the season.

The Rams lost eight of the 14 matches, but recorded four pins and two forfeits in their six triumphs to pull out the win.

Sergio Sarinara, Ian Fennell, Michael Wood and Garrett Stokes all pinned their opponent to power Starmount past the Cardinals.

Fennell (29-4), the 10th-ranked wrestler according to Retro Rankings bounced back from just his fourth defeat of the season, a 6-4 loss to West Iredell’s Travis Reed last week. Wood (28-1) won his 15th-straight match since losing to Forbush’s Dylan Edwards in December.

Colby Cooper, Jesse Laws, Eli Billings and Tony Gregory all pinned their opponents for the Cardinals, while Jake Shore battled for a tech fall at 145.

Derrick Woodie, Zach Prevette and Ryne Lentz rounded out the scoring for East with wins.
