Mrs. JoAnn Darnell Crater, age 81, went to be with the Lord Friday, January 18, 2013. Mrs. Crater was born August 5, 1931 in Surry County, to Robert Lee and Connie Ruth Talley Darnell. She was an active member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church. Mrs. Crater was a former resident of Westerville, Ohio and a former member of Karl Road Baptist Church in Columbus.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Price.

Survivors include: her husband, James William Crater of the home; son, James Michael Crater and his wife Christine of Westerville, Ohio; daughter, Donna C. Sallee and her husband Brad of Matthews; brother, James Thomas “Jimmy” Darnell of Elkin; sister, Colleen D. Jones of Elkin; grandchildren, Chad William Sallee and his wife Julie and Carrie Jo Sallee O’Neal and her husband Shaun; great grandchildren, Marrin Faith O’Neal, Bryce Patrick O’Neal, Elizabeth Gray Sallee, Brooke Addison Sallee, and Grant William Sallee.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at the church. The family requests that memorials be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church- Road to Tomorrow Fund, 118 N. Elkin Drive, Elkin, NC 28621.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and the many family and friends for their prayers and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for their care.
