EAST BEND - After knocking off Yadkin County rival Starmount to kick off 2013, the Falcons have dropped back-to-back games to the Mountain Valley Conference’s top squads.
Against Elkin (7-0) Tuesday night, a cold-shooting second half doomed Forbush as the Elks cruised to the 74-46 victory. The Falcons were out-manned their last time out against Wilkes Central (6-1), falling 59-35 Friday night.
The Elks started slow as Forbush came out firing.
Barrett Hennings scored six points in the opening quarter - including an ‘and-1’ with 15 seconds remaining - as the Falcons led 14-12 after one.
The Falcons pushed their lead out to as much as six at 23-17 in the second before Elkin responded.
Following Hennings’ bucket at 23-17, the Elks closed the half on a convincing 16-4 run over the final 6:01 to take a 33-27 lead into the break.
In the second half, Forbush was out-scored 41-19 to coast to the dominating 74-46 victory.
Hennings powered the Falcons with 15 points on the night, while Jacob Funk tacked on nine points. Mason Doub finished with seven points with Bennett Winslow and Bryson Lee adding four points apiece.
Against Wilkes Central, the Falcons never found their rhythm.
The Eagles jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the opening quarter and led by as much as 10 in the first half, taking a 26-18 lead into the break.
Forbush only managed 17 second-half points, falling 59-35. The performance was the Falcons’ second lowest scoring out-put of the season.

The Falcons will look to bounce back this week against Alleghany Tuesday night before hosting East Wilkes Friday night.
