The Tribune and the Surry County Economic Development Partnership, Inc. announced today a joint effort to spotlight local manufacturing businesses in Elkin and surrounding communities.

The spotlight will be featured in The Tribune monthly.

The Surry County Development Partnership works in collaboration with existing businesses in Surry County, a county they say is on the edge of being one of the fastest growing metropolitian areas of eastern coast states.

“Many companies right now are sitting on product pressure and that could mean acquisition or growth,” expressed Todd Tucker, president of the economic development team. “Some may expand quickly, and some may over time, but we have to do all we can to help them.

Spotlighting many of the business in our backyard is a great way to connect the local community too,” continued Tucker.

LeeAnn Stokes, vice president of Surry County Economic Development Partnership, Inc. will spearhead the Tribune/local business effort and help open the doors for an inside and behind-the-scenes look by The Tribune at manufactuing facilities and other related businesses.

The spotlight will include employment vacancies and types of skills necessary to fill any position, thus giving a leg-up to local residents who may be unfamiliar with such employment opportunities.

“Having a business spotlight is a great idea,” said Stokes. “We see a ton of potential from Surry County businesses.”

On a 2013 economic outlook, Tucker expressed that Surry has a tremendous amount of positive stories unfolding for the year too. “Each one is unique and the partnership has to stay involved to help find the answers.

“A spotlight is a great tool, because it helps educate the community on what’s being produced here, and it fills jobs,” stated Tucker. “Anytime you can put people to work, that’s a good thing.”
