DOBSON - Surry Central flexed its muscles Wednesday night against an over-matched Elkin side.

The Lady Golden Eagles, fresh off their second win over defending Mountain Valley Conference Wilkes Central this season, fired on all cylinders Wednesday, cruising past the Elks 78-28 for their fifth-straight triumph.

Surry Central opened on a 10-0 run and led by as much as 18 in the first quarter. The Eagles scored early and often, jumping out to 40-14 lead at halftime.

Elkin found some rhythm against a deep Central squad, scoring 19 points in the second and third quarters. But the Elks were unable to contain the Eagles as all five starters scored in double-figures on the night.

Surry Central used a 38-14 run in the second half to coast to the big victory.

Sarah Bruce led the way with 18 points on the night, while Cassidy Joyner (12 points), Tess Dockery (12), Courtney Hegler (11) and Brittany Lewis (10) all scored in double-figures.

Makayla Dimmette scored eight points to pace Elkin, while Bethany Turner and Kaitlin Faw added seven and six points, respectively. Courtney Beals tacked on four points with Carrie Brown recording three.

The Lady Elks fell to 0-12 on the season with the loss and will look to pick up their first victory tonight against Ashe County when they return to conference play.
