EAST BEND - Forbush lost two tough contests to Wilkes County schools last week to remain winless on the season.
In their last time out, the Falcons blew out a double-digit halftime lead and fell in the final seconds 52-51 to West Wilkes. On Tuesday night, Forbush was unable to contain undefeated North Wilkes as they dropped a 71-55 decision.
Against the Blackhawks, Savannah Hill (eight points) and Brittany Moose (seven) powered the Lady Falcons to a 28-18 advantage at the intermission before seeing West fight their way back into the game.
The ‘Hawks opened the third quarter on a 13-0 run to grab a 31-28 lead midway through the frame, but the scrappy Falcons hung around.
Forbush battled back and grabbed a 46-41 advantage with four minutes left to play. Hill drained a trey to push the Falcons ahead at 51-50 with 21 seconds remaining.
But on West’s final possession, an offensive rebound and put-back by Leah Bishop with three ticks left gave the Blackhawks a thrilling 52-51 victory. Paris Trivette’s potential game-winning three at the buzzer hit iron.
Hill poured in a game-high 21 points on the night to lead Forbush, while Moose and Shannon Holden added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Tuesday’s loss was not as dramatic as unbeaten North Wilkes pulled away in the second half to keep the Falcons winless.
Trailing just 29-26 in Hays, the Vikings scored 42 second-half points to win comfortably at 71-55. The cold second half performances have been a trend for Forbush as they search for that elusive first victory.
Hill once again powered the Falcons with 18 points, including four threes, while Moose added 14 on the night. Trivette tacked on eight points, while Kala Doub and Maddi Morsch finished with six and five points, respectively.
With the tough losses, the Falcons dropped their overall record to 0-8 on the season and 0-4 in the Mountain Valley Conference.
Forbush takes a break from conference play to take on familiar non-conference foe Davie County Thursday night in East Bend in its final game of the calendar year.
