The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting autopsy results to see if a body found Saturday in the Hilltown section of Fries is that of a missing Carroll County man.

Samuel “Sam” Joseph Sheehi, 32, was last seen on Oct. 10 at his residence in the Hilltown section of Fries. The sheriff’s offices from both Carroll County and Grayson County began looking for him shortly after that. According to Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner, a body was found around noon Saturday not far from Sheehi’s residence. The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke, Gardner said. Until the autopsy results return, he couldn’t say for sure if the body was Sheehi.

“We found a body not very far from his house. No positive identification has been made at this moment,” Gardner said. “The truth is I can’t say if it is him yet. We hope to have the autopsy back soon.”

Gardner said Sheehi’s brother found the body while searching the area around the residence. He then called the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, who worked the scene along with special investigators from the Virginia State Police. Meanwhile, Sheehi’s family has already made funeral arrangements. His obituary appears in the Nov. 14 edition of The Carroll News.
