Stacey Scott Foster, age 89, of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, Elkin, N.C. formerly of Irma Ave., Lexington, passed away Thursday evening at the nursing center.


A funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, in the chapel of Piedmont Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Dr. Bill Johnson, Rev. Chip Webb and Rev. Jerry Webb. Burial with military honors will follow in Lexington City Cemetery.


Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:00p.m. Sunday, at Piedmont Funeral Home.


A memorial service will be held 2:30p.m. Monday at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, 700 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, N.C.


Stacey was born in Danville, Va., on December 29, 1922, to Stacie “Bud” Foster and Ethel Lumsden Foster.


He was a member of the Lexington Police Department, a retired truck driver with McLean Trucking Company, retired director of Davidson County Emergency services. He served 22 years as a council member for the City of Lexington, and was a charter member of Second Presbyterian Church. Stacey served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, then served in the U.S. Coast Guard, was a Life Member of VFW Post 3074, and a Life Member of American Legion Post 13. He served twice as post commander of Post 3074 and was a past state commander for the VFW, and was appointed, by Governor Jim Hunt, to the N.C. Division of Veterans Affairs Commission. In 1986, he received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest adult award from the Boy Scouts of America. In addition to his parents, his wife, Betty Ruth Webb Foster, his daughter, Betty Jo Foster Wilson, his brother, William Ralph Foster, killed in action during WWII, and sister, Nellie Perl Foster Glass preceded him in death.


Stacey is survived by his son, William R ( John) Foster and wife Sara of Elkin; grandchildren, Christel Murray and husband Vallie, Cheryl Hanner and husband Vance, and Ben Wilson; great-grandchildren, Jesse Murray, Cooper Murray, Rachel Hanner and Lauren Hanner; and special friend Edith Brawley.


The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, for their care during Stacey’s time there and to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for their extra care.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Boy Scout Troop 230, Trinity United Methodist Church, 902 South Main Street, Lexington, N.C. 27292 or VFW Post 3074, 625 South Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
