Jody Alan Davis, 25, of Mount Airy, was killed Monday when his pick-up truck struck a fallen oak tree on Prison Camp Road in Dobson at approximately 6:51 p.m.

Davis was traveling toward Dobson on Prisom Camp Road near Old County Home Road when a large tree fell in the road in front of his car as a result of high wind.

“When the tree fell, he didn’t have time to react, and he ran through the tree and then into another tree on the left side of the road,” said John Shelton, Surry County director of emergency services.

Emergency responders attempted resuscitation at the scene and he was taken to Northern Hospital in Mount Airy where he was pronounced dead at 7:46 p.m.

Detours were set up around the area as crews have been called in to repair power lines that were knocked down by the tree.
