Surry County residents began casting their votes on Oct. 18 in early voting for November’s election.

Libby Tilley, Surry County elections clerk, said she has seen larger than anticipated numbers of voters coming out to the polls for early voting in Dobson.

OneStop early voting began at Dobson courthouse at 201 E. Kapp St. on Oct. 18 and will continue through Nov. 3. The courthouse is open for voting Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 18 through Nov. 2 and from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 3.

“It’s been heavy here in our office,” Tilley said. “The first two days we had about 1,200 people, and that’s a lot for the first two days and a lot more than we’ve seen in years past. As of Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. 3,465 people had in early voting not counting absentee by mail.”

Monday Oct. 29 is the first day of OneStop early voting in Elkin and Mount Airy.

The Elkin OneStop voting location will be at Elkin Rescue Squad, 940 North Bridge St. Voting hours will be Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 3.

The Mount Airy OneStop voting location will be at Surry County Human Services Center at 1218 State Street. Voting hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Surry County residents who have not registered to vote can also register and vote at these OneStop locations. A form of identification with the residents name and current address is required and votes must be cast the same day as registration.
