Ashe County’s junior varsity football team wrapped up the season on Thursday with a 42-8 win over East Wilkes.


The win capped off an undefeated season in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference, and gave Ashe the conference crown, ahead of Starmount and East Wilkes as they both had two losses.


The season started off with tough losses to Watauga and North Surry out of conference, but the team quickly turned it around once MVAC games started.


Ashe beat Starmount in a close one, 22-20, then shutout Elkin 26-0 to take a 2-0 record into a game at West Wilkes. The Huskies pounded the Blackhawks 41-0 to move to 3-0.


The JV team picked up some dominating victories down the stretch, starting with a 33-6 win over North Wilkes a, 27-point win over Alleghany, a hard-fought 14-0 shutout against Wilkes Central and a 24-7 victory at Forbush.


Overall, the team scored 247 points this season, and surrendered just 81 to its opponents.
