Expansion construction has started at Uni-Health Post-Acute Care of Elkin, commonly known as Elkin Healthcare Center.

The nursing home, located at 560 Johnson Ridge Road, is adding on 32 additional private rooms. It currently has only four private rooms and 48 double rooms.

“We’re not increasing the number of beds. We will still have 100 beds and 100 patients, but we will have more private rooms to accommodate modern needs,” said Jason Lindsey, Administrator at Uni-Health Post-Acute Care of Elkin.

The new addition will include 32 new private rooms, a therapy pool, a large area for physical therapy, an additional dining room, porch, and potentially a Starbucks, according to Lindsey.

“This nursing home is specifically directed toward acute care and post care with the idea of getting patients back home. With our new addition we’re going to be able to handle those types of illnesses even better and really meet our patients needs,” Lindsey said.

The construction began last week and is scheduled to be finished no later than Nov. 1 2013.
