The season will continue for a pair of Lady Husky tennis players. Haley Maloney and Anna Wooten earned a third place finish last weekend in the 2A Midwest Regional held in Salisbury.

In the semifinal round, Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer and Alexandra Drye from Salisbury High School defeated Wooten and Maloney 6-1, 6-0.

The Ashe duo bounced back quickly, and knocked off a familiar foe in the consolation third place game to move on to the state tournament. Wooten and Maloney were 6-2, 6-1 winners over Ashley Griffin and Heaven Walters of Starmount.

“I am so proud of these players and feel they can go far in the state playoffs,” said head coach Larry Dix. “They have worked hard and have had a great senior year.”

Entering the state tournament, Wooten and Maloney hold a record of 23 wins against just one loss. The tournament will take place this Friday and Saturday in Cary.
