The Elkin High School varsity cheerleaders will be cheering for a different cause this weekend.

The squad is sponsoring a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk this Saturday Oct. 27 in Grissom Stadium.

“My girls have taken on this project, raising funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation - Triad Affiliate, for the whole month of October,” said Kali Teague, varsity cheerleading coach and Elkin High School family and consumer sciences teacher. “The project is near and dear to our squad, as a mother of our squad was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.”

Registration will open at 9 a.m. at Grissom Stadium. The walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will end at 11:30 a.m.

All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation. The suggested minimum team donation is $50 with their being up to 20 people per team.

“We would like to raise as many funds as we can for our local affiliate to help serve the triad area,” Teague said.
