The Lady Husky golf team finished second place overall in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference regular season after wrapping up play with a second place finish at Oakwoods Country Club last week.


Elkin took the top spot again, and was the overall first place team after winning every conference match. The Lady Elks finished with a team score of 142.


Ashe finished eight shots ahead of third place with its score of 157. Wilkes Central was third (165) followed by Alleghany (168) and Forbush (171).


Individually, Annika Winebarger had the best score with a 42. Teammate Mary Francis Hall was two shots back with a 44. Katie Tally of Alleghany and Ashe’s Taylor Price tied for third with a score of 49, and Forbush’s Kelsey Kim took fifth with a score of 51.


The other Ashe individual scores were Olivia Barr with a 53, Madison Little with a 55, Katie Girtman with a 58 and Madison Ball with a 59.


Overall, Ashe had four of the top 10 golfers in the MVAC with their season-long totals. Price had the fourth best scores, followed by Little (sixth), Barr (seventh) and Girtman (ninth).


The Lady Huskies will now compete in the MVAC Tournament set for this Wednesday.
