Margaret Higgins Wood, 83, of State Road passed away on Oct. 2, 2012, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.


Mrs. Wood was born in Alleghany County on March 3, 1929, to the late Marshall and Lucretia Brown Higgins. Mrs. Wood was a member of Liberty Knob Regular Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company.


In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a son, Junior Wood; brother, Lee Higgins; sisters, Doris Lowe, Myrtle Hutchinson, Pauline Johnson, Thelma Hicks; grandchildren, Sherry Wood, Richard Caudill


Mrs. Wood is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, George Elmer Wood of the home; children, James Lee Wood & wife Sandra of State Road, Linda Caudill & husband Buddy of State Road, Ronnie Ray Wood and wife Sandy of Traphill, Larry Franklin Wood of the home, Paula Wood Coe of State Road; grandchildren, Angela, Teresa, Jamie, Luke, Will, Sonda; great-grandchildren, Austin, Abby, Sam, Darby, Gabe, Jordan, Garrett, Salem, Addison, Taylor; great great-grandchild, Chyanna; and several loving nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be held on 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Walter Hutchinson and Rev. Travis Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow the service at Liberty Knob Regular Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home from 10:00 to11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
