A 54-year-old Hillsville woman has passed away after a two-vehicle collision Thursday on Airport Road.

According to the Virginia State Police, Martha Newman Wade passed away the following day after being transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

According to State Police reports, the accident occurred at 5:20 p.m. on Airport Road, one-tenth of a mile south of Route 956 (Training Center Road). Wade was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she crossed the centerline and struck a 1989 Ford Taurus driven by Harold Lee May, 61, of Woodlawn, causing Wade’s vehicle to overturn. Investigating Trooper J.R. Alderman wrote in his report that Wade was not wearing a seat belt.

Wade was transported to Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax before being transported to Winston-Salem. May was not transported. Alderman listed damages as $6,000 to Wade’s vehicle and $2,000 to May’s vehicle. The Virginia State Police said no charges would be filed.
