Carroll netters open SWD season with win at Richlands

Carroll County won its seventh straight volleyball game and opened the Southwest District schedule Sept. 25 with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 win at Richlands.


Eustacia Smith led the Cavaliers with three aces and 11 kills. Jessica Sheek added two aces, nine kills and a team-high 19 service points. Gracie Lindsey also had two aces to go along with a game-high 12 digs. Megan Alderman sparked the Cavalier setting game with 10 assists, while Brianna Delby dished out seven assists. Rachel Farmer contributed two blocks in the win for Carroll County (8-3, 1-0 SWD).


Carroll County avenged an early-season loss to Galax with a four-set win over the Maroon Tide in Hillsville on Sept. 24.


The Cavaliers, who lost in five sets to Galax on Aug. 27, won its seventh straight with a 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19 victory. Sheek, Smith and Morgan Tompkins all had three aces in the victory. Carroll County also had a block party at the net as Tompkins and Farmer each had four blocks. Autumn Hill added three blocks and Tori Goad and Morgan Crowder both contributed two blocks in the win.


Smith also led the Cavs with 14 kills and 16 digs. Sheek threw down 12 kills and Lindsey tallied 11 digs. Alderman paced the team with 13 assists. Cheyenne Strickland and Ashton Huff also distributed the ball well with eight assists apiece.


JV Volleyball

Carroll County’s junior varsity volleyball team is now 9-2 after a 25-21, 25-18 victory Sept. 25 at Richlands.


Bristal Upchurch’s 19 service points helped the Cavaliers surge to the win. Tori Lynn Reavis chipped in with nine points from behind the serving line, while Aubrie Marshall (seven points), Madison Burnette (6) and Madison Hull (5) also contributed serving.


Upchurch also had 13 service points Sept. 24 in a 25-25, 28-26 win over Galax.


Hull added nine service points for Carroll, followed by teammates Burnette (9), Marshall (8), Reavis (8), Brenna Hill (4) and Baily Delby (2).
