The Annual Friends of the Elkin Public Library book sale begins this weekend with the Pumpkin Festival.

The book sale with for only members of the Friends of the Library from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Non-members can become Friends of the Library at the discounted rate of $15 at the door. The normal joining rate is $25, said librarian Martha Smith.

“Friends of the Library began in 1964 and we have been doing the sale for many years,” Smith said. “This year we had about 8,000 books donated, which is more than we had last year.”

Paperback books will be 50 cents and hardback books will be one dollar, Smith said.

Money raised by the Friends of the Library dues and sale go towards purchasing new books and the eBooks subscription, Smith said.

The Friends of the Elkin Public Library book sale will be open to the public starting from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, in the library meeting room. The sale will continue for two weeks during normal library hours through October 6.
