The 2011 and 2012 Ashe County Huskies Competitive cheer team had a great year. The team had a tough schedule and ended with the top spot at each event all through the year.
There were 25 young ladies on the team from ages nine to 18. Team members were Jada Nichols, Kiersten Sharpe, Eden Elliott, Morgan Richey, Jamie Richey, Bennett Watson, Kahryn Little, Karrington Hamby, Shantell Murray, Hanna Jones, Lora Jones, Caitlin Elliott, Skylar Taracido, Madison Culver, Megan Neaves, Briana Davis, Mallorie McClure, Katie Brooks, Samantha Johnson, Autumn Poe, Haleigh Hogg, Kaitlyn Adams, Ashley Roark, Kaylyn Osborne, Kendra Nethery.
The way these young ladies went and competed and represented Ashe County was truly amazing. The one-day competitions that the team went to were Fever Production, Spirit Solutions, and Glitter Glitz Productions. At all of these competitions, Ashe finished first in its division and at the Fever Production and Glitter Glitz, the team was announced as Grand Champion and was awarded the Sportsmanship award.
Ashe also competed in a pair of two-day competitions, America’s Best and JamFest Nationals and once again Ashe County came in first in its division and brought home banners, trophies, and champion jackets.
In America’s Best, they gave an award for Athlete of the Month and this award was based on the athlete’s school academics and cheerleading history. This award was given to one of the young ladies on the Ashe County team which was Eden Elliott.
The last competition was the U.S. Finals, and these young ladies went to do their tough routine for the last time. When the Huskies took the spotlight on the final stage, they didn’t forget their name or what state they were from. They were truly that awesome. As a coach, you couldn’t ask for a better performance and Stephanie Nichols and I were so proud of the team. The Huskies once again came in first place and came home with a banner, trophies, and jackets. The competitive team has won back-to-back US Finals Grand Championships.
Our season would not have been possible without the help from our wonderful community, family, friends, and parents. The team would like to give a special thanks to Franny Adams for keeping our accounting books for the competitive season and Jody Davis for being in charge of the fundraising. Stephanie, Amanda, and our Huskies Competitive Cheerleading Team would like to give a special thank you to Sergeant Adam Moore, Sergeant Michael Clarke, Sergeant Jeff Houck, and the National Guard Armory in Jefferson for a wonderful place to practice. Without their help we could not have a team.
The Ashe County Competitive Team will be having sign ups for the new competitive team for the 2012 and 2013 season on September 20, 25, and 27 at the National Guard Armory in Jefferson from 6 p.m. until 7:30. If you have any questions please call 336-977-1154.
