Hugh Chatham Nursing Center honored veterans and those who gave their lives during 9/11 on Tuesday at a memorial service.

Certificates were given to Hugh Chatham workers and residents who served in the military. The Elkin High School band and ROTC participated in the event, playing the “Star Spangled Banner” and a song from their Phantom of the Opera themed marching band show.

“We are here today not to remember the tragedy and the travesty,” said Pastor Kenny Gunn of Jonesville Pentecostal Church. “Because that would mean we would lose and they would win. We are here to remember those who gave their lives: those in the building, on the airplanes, the firefighters, the police officers who all gave their lives.”
