Promoting greater awareness of what’s happening with the greenway, community enjoyment and raising money.
Those are the three reasons the Friends of the Greenway are hosting Jonesville Greenway Music Festival, according to Dale Swofford, a member of the Jonesville Tourism Development Authority.
The bluegrass and gospel music festival will be held Saturday and Sunday Oct. 13 and 14 at Lila Swaim Park in Jonesville. The event will be all day Saturday and half a day on Sunday, with admission being $2 and a canned food item to be donated to Tri-County Christian Crisis Ministry.
“Our goal is to raise $10,000,” Swofford said. “We have money to acquire the property but we don’t have any money to start construction on stuff and we have dozens and dozens of projects to be done down there. Whatever funds we raise we’ll use to develop starting at the trail head.”
Swofford said the Friends of the Greenway hope people will donate money to buy items for the greenway such as park benches, swings, trees and azaleas.
The festival will also offer old-fashion games and food.
“We’ll have old-fashion games for children, not blow up bouncers but things like ring tosses,” Swofford said. “We will have some vendors, but I am cooking 400 pounds of deep Smokey Mountain barbecue and 11 pounds of chicken.”
The Friends of the Greenway currently have approximately 15 groups signed up to perform, and are looking for more. “If your blue grass band, gospel group or church choir has an interest in performing at this event, we would very much like to have your participation. We are also looking for businesses, individuals and arts and crafts vendors that would want to have a booth at the festival, the cost is only $25 for this two-day event.”
