Meatloaf, fried chicken, chicken pie and steak and gravy. These are a few of the southern delicacies Taste of Country will be offering when the restaurant opens for business Aug. 6.

Owners Randy and Kimberly Crysel of North Wilkesboro wanted to open a restaurant with country food and a country feel.

“The name ‘Taste of Country’ was just something that came to me one day as I was sitting around thinking about if I opened a restaurant, what kind of food I’d serve and what kind of atmosphere I’d want,” Crysel said. “I want it to be the kind of place where people come in and know each other and know us. That’s the kind of atmosphere we want to set here. Folks just to come visit with us and have a good meal.”

The restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday and will be open for dinner on Fridays.

Crysel said breakfasts will be full-service, offering plates including eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, omelets, and more. The lunch menu will include a blue-plate daily meal specials with meat and vegetables, or a fixed menu including sandwiches and salads. Friday night’s dinner menu will include similar dinner specials.

“We have a menu that’s pretty well set, but we’ll be offering things from the cuff. I may say ‘It’s chilly and rainy, I may fix up a pot of soup,’” Crysel said.

Though Crysel and his wife live in North Wilkesboro, he said he feels the opportunities in Elkin are great, and he is looking forward to being part of the community.

“Since we’ve come to Elkin, everyone has been super nice, super helpful and super friendly,” he said. “We’re looking forward to becoming part of the community down here.”
