“Movie Mondays” will be held on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm showing The Secret World of Arrietty, rated G and with a running time of 94 minutes. The Secret World of Arrietty is about a 14-year-old named Arrietty, who along with the rest of the Clock family, live in peaceful anonymity as they make their own home from items that they borrow from the house’s human inhabitants. However, life changes for the Clocks when a human boy discovers Arrietty. Come discover The Secret World of Arrietty where your imagination comes to life!


Summer Reading Programs for all ages will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, featuring the North Carolina Zoo with a special program called “Big Comes in All Sizes.” All programs are free of charge and run approximately 45-60 minutes in length. For questions or additional information, please stop by the Yadkin County Public Library.


The Summer Photography Contest winners are as follows: 1st Place: Sandra Ingool for “Moon Dreams”, 2nd Place: Jan Hall for “Sweet Dreams” and 3rd Place: Jerrie Hayes for “Her Majesty”. The library would like to congratulate the winners and thank all those that entered. Photographs are on display in the library’s front entryway. Photos will be on display through the end of July.


Looking for books for your summer reading enjoyment? The library is a great place to stock up on some affordable fiction and nonfiction finds. Take time to stop by the library and check out the sale items in the front entryway. As always, the library accepts book donations with the exception of encyclopedias. A charitable donation receipt is given upon request.


Yadkin Christian Ministries is in need of pantry items to restock their shelves. Items most needed are laundry detergent, dish detergent, dried beans, crackers, cookies, cereals, flour, sugar, personal hygiene products and paper products. If you have items you would like to donate, stop by the Yadkin County Public Library and drop them in the Yadkin Christian Ministries box. A donation box will be available at the library until the end of July.


The Yadkin County Public Library is a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system, comprised of libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The library’s normal operating hours are as follows: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 am – 6:30 pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m – 5:30 p.m.
