One of Surry County’s largest private employers will soon have a new home.

An official of WorkForce Carolina, now celebrating 25 years in business, has announced the move of its corporate headquarters to an office building at 1908 Caudle Drive, located behind Lone Star Steakhouse in Mount Airy. The human resources firm will begin operations there on Feb. 27.

It is now based in the New Market Crossing shopping center.

WorkForce Carolina was established in 1987 and provides a wide range of staffing services including employee recruitment and placement in both permanent and temporary positions.

As the company has evolved, its office space demands have increased, according to Teresa Lewis, longtime president of WorkForce Carolina.

“Our company has grown and added several full-time staff over the past couple of years and we have outgrown our current location at New Market Crossing on Independence Boulevard,” Lewis added. “I’ll bet I’ve (recently) hired seven or eight full-time employees internally.”

The office staff now numbers 26, Lewis said.

“In addition to better accommodating our present staff, the new location will give us plenty of room for continued growth.” It contains 10,000 square-feet of office space.

WorkForce Carolina is moving to a site formerly known as the Thomas and Howard Building, which recently was renovated by The Crown Companies of Dobson.

The structure basically has been gutted, “so the interior is like brand-new,” Lewis said. The office space is re-designed in a manner to best accommodate WorkForce Carolina’s clients as well as office staff.

WorkForce Carolina will occupy the entire upper level, with doctors housed in other parts of the building.

Since it is located right off U.S. 52 (Andy Griffith Parkway), the new location will allow easy access for both customers and clients, she said.

Along with its move to a new facility, WorkForce Carolina will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an upcoming event, for which details have not been finalized.
